Customer’s Attention

Before the decision is made to purchase Counter UAV/UAS system (C-UAV) the customer needs to have the budget plan and knowledge of C-UAV to be able to compare systems.

The objective is to let all industrial users find the most efficient & effective system and save the costs.

On the market, there are many manufacturers & agents claiming that their products or systems are the solution to the threat posed by the drones in LLS (low attitude, low speed, and small) and they claim that their stated performance & specifications are effective.

C-UAV for LLS solutions consist of three sections which include Legal authorization, Drone in LLS detection, and Counter Drones. In most countries today, only the military, Federal Police and authorized authorities are permitted to use C-UAV systems, there are no issues regarding legal challenge for them. On the market, there are many systems for LLS Drone detection including :

l Radio Frequency (RF).

l Radio Detection (RD).

l Acoustic Sensors (ASs).

l Remote Identification (electronic Identification/eID).

l Electro-Optical & Infra IR combined EO/IR.

Theoretically these products or combined systems can be integrated and perform well during operation. This depends on the customer’s budget plan and how to integrate each system.

The most efficient system is Passive Radar which does not transmit a radio wave and is low cost and has low maintenance fees. It is simple, efficient and does not affect the public frequency bands such as ambulance or mobile phone bands etc. If the customer wants to monitor the sky or operate at night, EO/IR combing Radio & Radar might be the best option – depending on the customer’s budget.

In comparison to the Radio Detection radar system, Active Radar cannot target swarm drones, and is restricted in the blind zone, flight speed, flight attitude/angle and flight path. The installation has high cost of parts, maintenance, professionals are required on duty and database storage is required.

Selection criteria for the integrated system is a key question for most industrial buyers. The buyer/operator needs to comprehend the theory of C-UAV/UAS and make decisions regarding seamless performance within their planned budget. Some systems on the market sound very good, but do have seamless coverage so they don’t work well.
